Innovative EPS

EPS is a building system based on a group of Structural Panels of undulated foam Polystyrene with a base reinforcement placed against the sides with high resistance steel mesh and each side joined to one another by means of electro-welded steel connectors.

Polystyrene foam is a thermoplastic material obtained by polymerization of styrene. As a material, EPS is formed by the union of so many beads of polystyrene produced during a modeling process with the supply of heat as water steam until the following characteristics are obtained;

  • Nominal Density – 15k g/m2
  • Thermal conductivity – 0 .0 37W/mk
  • Steam resistance – 0.15mm Hg m2 dia/g cm
  • Type of Material – F self-extinguishing
  • Compression stress @ 10% of strain = 50k pa

The thickness of foamed polystyrene may vary from 4cm to 25cm according to the requirements of the architectural design. The steel meshes projection of 50mm on the opposite sides joins the two panels which interlock one another guaranteeing continuity by superimposition with no need of placing additional joining elements like columns, lintel, and beams.

Other uses of this technology can be seen in Highway Construction, Road, Road Embankments, Retaining Wall or Abutment Backfill, Slope Stabilization, Pavement Insulation e.g. Airports, Basement Constructions e.g. Car parks, etc.

American Society of Civil Engineer s(ASCE) has given National Recognition to Road Highway, Electricity Station, Denver International Airport and World Trade Center for the use of EPS Technology.
